IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Doug Lederman's story on the recently released National Black Male College Achievement Study received
an overwhelming response. The study analyzes a cohort of 219 black men (at a
range of institutional types) who meet rigorous criteria that define them as
"achievers," to understand both how and why they succeeded in
college, and what campus leaders and others might do to help others follow in
their footsteps.

NEW ON THE SITE -- Inside
Higher Ed's 2012
Survey of College and University Presidents was published this
morning. Read our coverage of the survey and download the complete data tables
and analysis by
clicking here. More than 1,002 college and university presidents from
every kind of institution (pubic, private and for-profit) responded to
questions about the 2012 election, college sports scandals, budget cuts,
assessment and more. The survey was conducted in collaboration with Inside Higher Ed's senior
research consultant, Kenneth (Casey) Green, founding director of The Campus
Computing Project, and made possible by the generous financial support of
Hobsons, Datatel+SGHE, InsideTrack and Pearson
OUT AND ABOUT -- Doug Lederman, Kevin Kiley, Todd Thompson and
Bill Baird will be at the annual conference of the American Council on
Education March 10-13 in Los Angeles. Stop by our exhibit for a copy of the
2012 Survey of College and University Presidents, hot off the presses. You can
also join Doug and Inside
Higher Ed's senior researcher Casey Green for a breakfast
discussion of the survey results at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 12, in Salon 1 of
the Diamond Ballroom at the JW Marriott Hotel.
Scott Jaschik, Laura McFarland and Deborah Harris travel to
London for Going Global, the British Council's conference on internationalizing
higher education. Scott will participate in a panel titled "Global Higher
Education in the Media: Spin or Reality?" on Monday, March 15.
Todd Thompson will be representing Inside Higher Ed at the College and
University Professional Association for Human Resources Western Region
conference in Sacramento, March 13-20.
Juan Risso heads to Denver March 19--23 where he'll be attending
DrupalCon, the "official conference of the Drupal community," of
which Inside Higher Ed
is a proud member.
On March 29, Scott is speaking on a media panel at the ENGINE
Conference, a meeting of public affairs leaders of engineering schools, in New
York City. He'll stay in town to moderate a series of panels at the TIAA-CREF
Institute on March 30.
And at the start of April, Doug is speaking at the Higher
Learning Commission conference in Chicago on the 1st and then heads to New York
to speak at the annual conference of the National Center for the Study of
Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and the Professions on the 3rd.
RECENT VISITORS -- Lots of interesting guests sat down with Inside Higher Ed reporters
and editors in February, including visitors from Indiana Wesleyan, Gordon
College, MIT Press, Cambridge University, Lasell College, Frostburg State

Inside Higher Ed's 2012
Survey of College and University Presidents

Nearly
70 percent of college and university presidents believe that the past year's
sports scandals have damaged all of higher education and that institutions
spend way too much on intercollegiate athletics -- but barely a quarter say
their own campuses are susceptible to such scandals or overspend on sports.
Roughly two-thirds of public and private college presidents say
they plan to vote for President Obama in November, and roughly 1 in 10 believe
the Republican candidates for the presidency have laid out a helpful vision for
higher education. (For-profit-college leaders beg to differ on both counts.)
Those are among the highlights of Inside Higher
Ed's 2012 survey of college presidents published today.
