Dr. Moustapha Diack, professor of Southern University’s doctoral program in Science/Mathematics Education (SMED) was recently awarded the Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching 2011 Distinguished Service Award.

The award, presented to Diack during the recent MERLOT’s Emergency Technologies Conference, is MERLOT’s highest honor.

According to MERLOT, “Individuals who receive this award have made many personal contributions to MERLOT and have demonstrated their dedication to MERLOT through serving as visionaries and leaders.

Diack is credited for his creation of the MERLOT Africa Network, MAN. The network is an online partnership between the faculty of African and United States higher educational institutions and global e-learning providers that will result in joint education, research and development programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. The goal of MAN is to develop e-learning courses that support the development of education in Africa.

Currently, MAN is in partnership with higher education institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, major educational organizations such as the Africa Virtual University, UNESCO Training Platform, the eLearning Africa organization and the Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa.

MERLOT is a user-centered, searchable collection of online learning materials, catalogued by registered members and a set of faculty development support services. Its vision is to be a premiere online community where faculty, staff and students from around the world share their learning materials and teaching practices.
