In The Classroom: How (And Why) One Teacher Did It

Earlier this evening, Microsoft unveiled it's
future. Quite simply, the tech giant is pinning it's hopes, dreams, and
revenue to the tablet-friendly Windows 8 as well as a new brand of tablet.
We've seen Windows 8 and it looks like an easy-to-use, fluid, and streamlined
approach to operating systems. It's about time.

Utopian
visions of learning are tempting, if for no other reason than they absolve us
of accountability to create it right now, leading to nebulous romanticizing
about how powerful learning could be if we just did more of X and Y...or is
that not the case?

The
results are in. And they're depressing. The current state of math textbooks
is downright terrifying but somehow not surprising. That's according to a new
report by ClassroomWindow.

Gamification is
the application of game mechanics to a non-game entities--learning systems
for example. It is also extremely flexible, able to fit the needs to a
variety of environments. But this can also make it confusing to implement.
Here's how one teacher did it.
