HBCU Faculty Development Network - Board Membership



Members of the HBCU Faculty Development Network are invited to apply for candidacy for election the to Board of Directors.  Candidates are elected at the annual Conference of the Network, and serve a three year term on the Board.  To be eligible, you must have been a member of the HBCU Faculty Development Network for a minimum of two years prior to election [i.e. have attended at least two conferences/symposia and become a member when registering].

If you are interested, please send the following to Barbara Albert ( balbert@dillard.edu ) by September 20, 2012:

1.  Qualifications/Experience (100 words maximum)
Provide in list form qualifications and experience, including education, job experience, and other positions and experience that would make you a strong member of the Board.

2.  Statement (100 words maximum)
Provide in narrative form a statement of why you are interested in becoming a Board member, your strengths related to the position, and what you would like to accomplish as a Board member.

3.  Current Resume (attach)
Members will be able to follow a link to your resume if they desire more information than what is contained in the other submitted material.

The following is a list of duties and functions of Board members that will be helpful when considering this opportunity.

A board member must commit to:
Advancing the mission, by-laws and strategic plan of the organization
Attending and participating in at least 2 annual meetings per year (Board meeting in spring and the annual Conference).  (The Network will pay for hotel expenses and meals while at the meetings.)
Becoming an officer of the Board and serving on a committee
Engaging in ongoing business of the Network through email or conference call discussions
Occasionally traveling for the Network
Occasionally participating in the writing of grants
Seeking and actively engaging in partnerships or agreements with other organizations
Occasionally presenting at conferences about the Network
Occasionally publishing the survey work and other information about the organization
Recruiting faculty to join the Network
Performing other duties as determined by the Board and membership of the Network
