an excellent opportunity to meet and network with those in the maritime industry.

Where: Georges Auditorium, Dillard University
2601 Gentilly Boulevard
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans – The New Orleans Chapter of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association will host a symposium, Women on the Water, on April 9, 2012 at Dillard University’s Georges Auditorium in the Professional Schools and Sciences Building.

This event is free and it is open to the community.  Women on the Water will provide an opportunity for the local community to learn about careers in the maritime industry.  Recognizing that the maritime industry is a critical to the economic viability of this area and that women comprise a small percentage of the maritime industry, this event is intended to highlight women in the maritime industry.  These careers and this event are open to both men and women, but this event is also intended to also provide insights and information for women that do not have role models for careers in the maritime industry and may not know about these opportunities.

Planned presenters are included on the attached flyer.  Additional biographical information about these impressive women is available.  “New Orleans has a storied maritime tradition and this industry is exciting and dynamic.  We want to make more women aware of the opportunities for maritime careers and we could think of no better way than to highlight some of the successful women in our local chapter,” said Adi Ferchmin, the president of the New Orleans WISTA chapter.

The event will begin at 10:30 AM and will include short presentations from seven local women as described in the flyer.  At the conclusion of the presentations, there will be individual question and answer sessions available with subject matter experts.

Those interested in attending may ask questions or RSVP to Mrs. Adelaida Ferchmin at ferchmin@chaffe.com
