The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) has recently published the 2011 CHEA Almanac of External Quality Review. The bi-yearly Almanac is the most comprehensive source of information about accreditation and external quality review of higher education in the United States. Each current CHEA institutional member will receive a complimentary print copy of the Almanac by mail.
The 188-page Almanac contains information about accrediting organizations, state higher education offices, federal and state roles in quality review and the recognition of accrediting organizations. Contents include:
  • An overview of U.S. accreditation and recognition in 2010-2011.
  • CHEA information and advisory materials on topics ranging from the value of the degree, student learning outcomes and transfer of credit responsibilities to combating degree mills.
  • Information on all regional, national and programmatic accrediting organizations recognized by CHEA, the U.S. Department of Education or both, including contact information and a profile of the organization's accreditation activities in 2010-2011.
  • A directory of State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEOs) including contact information.
The Almanac is available in print and electronic versions. Copies are $85 (print or electronic; $70 for two or more copies), postage included. To order your copy, please use the online order form or call (202) 955-6126.

A national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation, CHEA is an association of approximately 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities and recognizes institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations.
