Greetings!
I am writing to ask for your help as we aspire to administer several surveys between now and May. Please announce the information below in your courses, copy and post the information to your Blackboard page and/or send emails to your students. I am especially hopeful that faculty will encourage seniors to complete the Collegiate Learning Assessment ( administered to seniors), which is part of the QEP.
In addition, I’d be more than happy to visit your class, if at all possible to talk for 5 minutes about the surveys and their importance. Thank you in advance for your support. Have a great week!
The Office of Assessment is administering several surveys that are very important. We hope that students from each Class and Academic Division will – as a part of its legacy – leave the University with data that will enable us to improve the educational experience here at Dillard University.
Check your Dillard email for the surveys and read below for more details:
• National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Freshmen and Seniors: Now Until April 30th – Online and Paper. NSSE assesses students’ perceptions of their educational experience. Focuses on level of academic challenge, active and collaborative learning, student-faculty interaction, supportive campus environment and enriching educational experiences.
• Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) Seniors: March 15 (12p – 2p) and March 19 (2p – 4p) As part of the QEP (Communication Skills Enhancement Grounded in Critical Thinking), seniors are asked to participate in the CLA. The survey provides real-life examples and allows students to complete questions based on their knowledge and experiences.
• Student Evaluation of Deans - All Students: Due by March 19th. The Deans are evaluated on an annual basis; however, this is the first year that students will participate. All are encouraged to use this as an opportunity to comment about the Dean’s strengths as well as areas for improvement.
• Student Evaluation of Teaching - All Students: April 5th – 9th. This is an opportunity for students to comment on their faculty members’ strengths as well as areas for improvement. Although some believe that the results are not used, the truth is that the Deans use the information during performance reviews and faculty use the information for tenure (i.e., moving to a higher rank) and promotion (i.e., receiving a salary increase).
• Student Evaluation of Faculty Advisors - All Students: April 19 – 23. In an effort to improve the academic advising process and experience, the University will ask students to evaluate their faculty advisor. Results will be used to make immediate and long-term improvements.
Check with ITT (Rosenwald Hall, 3rd Floor, Stern Side) if you did not receive the NSSE and/or Dean’s Evaluation via your Dillard email. Contact Dr. Morelon-Quainoo with any other questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for helping us to improve upon the work we do. Remember: TEAMWORK makes the DREAM work! cmorelon@dillard.edu
