Ethical E-Research: From Class Projects to Thesis/Dissertation Research

May 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm ET - free to all.
Leader: Janet Salmons, PhD Capella University and Vision2Lead, Inc. Author and editor: Online Interviews in Real Time and Cases in Online Interview Research, both from Sage Publications

As social media, text, videoconferencing and meeting platforms become more common in personal, social and professional life, it is not surprising that researchers are finding that the same communication tools can be used for interview studies. Today's researchers can access diverse and geographically far-flung participants in convenient ways, and gather visually-rich data-- at little cost.
At the same time, when communications technologies are used for research purposes, there are many unique design and ethical considerations. In this session Janet Salmons will explore opportunities and caveats for online interview research, and share her "E-Interview Research Framework." She will suggest ways e-interview projects could enliven course work, as well as ways these approaches can be used in more formal research. Janet will discuss ways to teach or guide e-researchers to help them build the skills they need to succeed.

NOTE: Login instructions for the session will be sent in the Registration Confirmation Email. Please check your Junk folder as sometimes these emails get trapped there. We will also send an additional login reminder 24 hours prior to the start of the event.
